Crossfit: this looks exciting, but umm, a little dangerous...

There are good, even great things, about Crossfit but I don’t think it’s useful as a training system for rugby.

ACT Women's 7s Team, 2011

ACT Sweet Chilli Fillies, Darwin, 2011. I have my head taped to cover 6 stitches over my eyebrow!!

Hey there! I’ve been a bit of a slacker as regards this blog, but in reality, there’s been plenty happening for me.

Most notably, I travelled to New York for the NY7s tourney, which was one of the most positive rugby experiences I’ve had. A couple of weeks ago, I toured to Darwin with the ACT girls for the Darwin Hottest 7s, and I have a few more 7s tourneys coming up.

Central Coast Sevens

Didn’t we have a fun time! The Vikings girls ripped up at CC7s on the weekend, taking home the $1000 prizemoney and a bunch of Blackest Cat kit, including boots!

Catching the clean (badly), September, 2010

Catching the clean (badly), September, 2010

I’m 31 years old and have had a revelation: one must accept the burden of their dreams if they are to be content. Or to state that in a more upbeat fashion: contentment is accepting the burden of one’s dreams.

This is not just for rugby players, but for everyone. I remind my husband of this when belief in his own dream falters. Perhaps this is simply “making sacrifices” – he knows we will need to move cities if he is to progress, but we love it here.

A little server issue

Alas and alack, I’ve had some server issues so I’ve relocated here for a short time! Most of my content is still available, but there’ll be issues with some (most) pics and possibly some documents.

With the lull in proceedings before the various sevens tourneys, I thought now was a good time to look back at 2010 and take what I can into next year.

The video below is part of my 2010 review and the first step towards 2011. It’s also an opportunity to thank a bunch of people who made a difference to me, even in ways they probably think are insignificant (I didn’t think so!)

CFN Online Comp

CFN Online Comp

Crossfit Newcastle Rugby (CFN) is holding an online WOD competition to raise funds for their trip to the Dubai Sevens. Both sound pretty cool to me, so I’ll enter the competition.

The online comp consists of three WODs between the 17 October and 22 October. You film and perform the WODs, stick them up on the Web and email the link to the folk at CFN.

I’ve been a bit slack in getting these highlights together, but the Caped Crusader is happy to present them for your viewing pleasure.

I’m wearing the cape, and you’ll see fine performances from Wallaroos Kristy Giteau and Alex Hargreaves, a deadset ripping fend from former Wallaroo Kim Wilson, and, well, just a try-scoring bonanza for the Viqueens. Nikki Ayers score twice, and kicks a fab goal from out wide.

Bulking up for Rugby

The Rep Shed

The Rep Shed

My 17 year old brother wants to bulk up for rugby and these are the tips I came up with:

1. Perform sets of 8 – 10 reps (stimulates hypertrophy)

2. Use gym rings – super efficient and quite cheap. I got mine on eBay for $58 delivered, they’re even cheaper now, see here: http://7h.it.cx/9n201v . Starting with pullups and dips is good. But remember, exercises should mostly be done in sets of 8 – 10 or so.
